Kerala issues over 6.5 lakh priority ration cards to eligible families

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) Kerala has issued over 6.5 lakh priority ration cards, including new cards and category conversions, to eligible families since the current government assumed office.
The State government has announced that the online facility for changing ration card categories will reopen on November 17, giving eligible households another opportunity to apply.
Officials said the focused distribution of priority cards has provided major relief to lakhs of families and significantly contributed to the State’s mission of a “No Extreme Poverty Kerala”.
Applications submitted by patients suffering from kidney, liver, heart ailments, and cancer are being verified and approved within 24 hours to ensure speedy access to benefits.
Mobile ration shops have been deployed across 142 tribal settlements, while food grains are supplied free of cost to destitute homes and orphanages.
In addition, 1,631 Supplyco outlets are providing subsidised essential commodities at fair prices to all ration cardholders. These measures have helped shield the public from the impact of rising prices, officials said.
